A Look Back At Some Of The Best Looks From The Past Hub Of Africa Fashion Weeks
The Fashion Africa 254 team will be in Addis Ababa for Hub of Africa Fashion Week and the excitement levels are high. Established in 2010 by Linda Murithi & Mahlet Teklemariam , Hub of Africa Fashion Week, the first of its kind in Ethiopia has become one of the major fashion events on the continent. The event has gathered fashion designers, editors and buyers from all over the world, including Vogue Talents and Repubblica. Murithi and Teklemariam founded Hub of Africa Fashion Week recognizing the need in East Africa, more significantly in Ethiopia for more fashion events promoting African fashion designers. ‘We wanted to see the business of fashion happen in Africa; and Addis-Ababa, Africa’s diplomatic hub was the ideal place to do so,’ said Murithi speaking to Tadias Magazine. It is with this ambitious vision that the Hub of Africa Fashion Week was born, with the aim of bringing together and connecting designers, manufacturers, textile suppliers, buyers, and photographers; with big hopes of contributing to the rising fashion industry in Africa. Turning 7 this year, the event has attracted some of Africa’s best designers and we want to take you down memory lane and highlight some of the best looks that have graced the Hub of Africa runways over the past years.
Kenyan Fashion designer Arnold Muriithi was the first winner of Equity Bank’s ‘Vijana na Equity‘ design competition. His collection showcased at the Hub Of Africa 2016 brought florals, patterns and chiffon to life.
Kori House of Couture Designs is a fashion house rich in authenticity and creativity that makes one of a kind clothing for both females and males of all age groups combining African and western fabrics. At Hub of Africa 2016, the house presented some of their most elegant yet sexy looks to date.
Martha Jabo – born and raised in Kampala Uganda, graduated from Makerere University in 2012, with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Fine Art, majoring in Fashion Design. Her designs have won her a lot of admirers within East Africa and beyond and her runway collection at the Hub of Africa 2015 proved just that.
Naked Ape, the South African brand founded by Shaldon Kopman in 2005 continues to design and craft luxury bespoke garments for discerning individuals.
Hub of Africa will be held in Addis Ababa from 5th to 8th of October, 2017 with more than a dozen designers showcasing their collections on the runway. For more information click here.
