Designer of MO SAÏQUE, Afua Dabanka is a cluster of world delights, Ghanaian blood at heart, born in Germany and currently residing in London. Previously in the financial industry, Afua left to fulfill turn her passion for shoes into a career as a luxury shoe designer.
MO SAÏQUE’s fans include American film stars, African supermodels, and European socialites. Collections are tightly curated always with an African accent and made to order in England.
An attainable luxury that’s echoed in brand’s bespoke business, which also gives clients access to custom footwear.
Dabanka, found inspiration in German Bauhaus philosophy of utilitarian design and colour schemes, blended with folkloric and iconic aspects of Ghana, such as Adinkra symbols, wood carvings, red, blue, blacks and browns of Ghana landscape and added a touch of British classics, by adding brogue punched detailing to a couple of styles.
“I am constantly inspired by my roots and the different cultures and influences that have accompanied me through life”, the designer says. Afua Dabanka worked with local artisans in Ghana to carve wood heels and hand paint a custom made design influenced by Adinkra Symbols of Ghana, which convey traditional wisdom.
