About the Brand
Adèle Dejak is a brand of luxury fashion accessories based in Kenya. The pieces are handmade in Kenya using materials sourced from across the African continent. The pieces, a fusion of African and European influences, are designed by the owner and founder Adèle Dejak and are assembled by some of the most talented artisans in Kenya. The company specializes in handbags and jewelry but also produces clothes, belts, sandals and other fashion accessories. The Adèle Dejak brand is at the forefront of the African luxury movement as it draws on rich African heritage to create products which celebrate beauty and design in Africa. The brand has collaborated with Salvatore Ferragamo, Abury Berlin, Milan Fashion Week Vogue Talents, La Rinascente and Fidenza Village Italy.
Adèle Dejak was trained in typography at the London College of Printing (2000-2002) and is a member of the International Society of Typographic Designers.
The designer went on to work as a freelance typographer in Rome from 2002 working as the art director for Italy’s leading music magazine, Rock Star Magazine in 2004.
The evolution of the Adèle Dejak style and designs has been facilitated by a workforce that responds quickly to new materials, collections and challenges. The Creative Director works closely with the artisans to master knowledge of the limits and flexibility of materials.
“You can tell from glancing at our collection that Adele is a huge fan of horn. Always intrigued by the abstract ‘art’ that is apparent in nature, she was fascinated by the uniqueness of each piece of horn. Conscious of the impact our business has on our environment, we works primarily with reclaimed Ankole cow horn (as well as hide, brass, ostrich egg shells, Teak wood, Mugavu wood and Bakuba cloth). We use only the best horn and each piece goes through strict quality control assessing attributes such as strength, colour and pattern.”
